The Technology Support Consultant I is a beginning level technical position responsible for advising and assisting computer users in a distributed computing environment. The position has frequent contact with KPERS’ staff, supervisors, division directors and vendors and occasional contact with board members and staff from the Department of Administration.
Provides technical assistance to users by resolving problems associated with workstations and related devices. Provide technical assistance to users on hardware and software, with limited training as needed that allows a basic understanding of the functionality. Provide technical assistance to the user by resolving problems associated with the personal computer and peripherals, and PC software related issues.
Builds new workstations, install required software, make configurations settings, and deploy to the user location.
Research to resolve complex technical issues to assist users. Research hardware/software applications for new products and provides information found to management and security staff.
Provides support for the KPERS network by such things as unlocking user accounts, troubleshooting and fixing/configuring hardware/software issues for the staff at KPERS and assisting employers/members that are having issues with connectivity to the KPERS websites.
Maintains an inventory of information system hardware/software installed on KPERS devices and technology that is checked out by KPERS staff.
Develops and maintain KPERS IT policies. Responsible for providing training on IT Security procedures to current staff annually and during orientation for new staff.
Serves as the primary contact for telecom issues. This will include both desktop and mobile phones. Assist end user for setting up Agency specific mobile device applications and security.
Coordinates telecom issues needing to be resolved with Department of Administration or other vendors. Responsible for documentation of the phone wiring, extensions to each office/cubicle and the drops for the network.
Participate in the resolution of security and network administration. Assist the security administrator or network team as required in the research and resolution of issues impacting the KPERS network.
Maintains KPERS Board Room to ensure that the room is organized for board meetings and maintain the technology utilized. Attend board meetings to assist with technology functions and issues.

Six months of experience advising and assisting computer users in a distributed computing environment. Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency.
$45,891 to $53,922 commensurate with experience and qualifications.
